Benefits

The Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route is the most important infrastructure project taking place in the North East and will bring a range of substantial benefits to the region.

At its busiest point the new route will carry over 43,000 vehicles per day but the Western Peripheral Route is more than just a road.

Its impact will be felt in the economy and the environment, by improving road safety and access to the North East and by providing greater opportunities to integrate private and public transport.

The construction of the route, including the strategic link to Stonehaven, provides a much needed fast and safe route around Aberdeen which links with the existing major roads and key locations such as the airport, park and ride sites and the major industrial estates around the city.

The Stonehaven fast link will reduce congestion on the A90 southern approach to the city and provide an alternative for traffic wishing to access the areas to the west and north of Aberdeen.  Cross-city travel will also be improved and heavy traffic removed from congested city routes and unsuitable rural roads.
